Butterfly
18k Yellow and Rose Gold / Diamonds
This piece was commissioned by a romantic gentleman for his wife as an anniversary gift, and ended up beguiling us all. Robert Fairbank was intrigued by the challenge of translating the essence of the subject into the positive and negative spaces created in the pierced gold.
As with many custom projects, this became a study in detail and form: the delicate patterning, distinctive shape, and color variation of a butterfly's wings.
Comet Ring
18k Gold / Tourmaline / Diamonds
A sculptural, asymmetrical ring featuring a fresh green triangular tourmaline, bezel-set, with a comet's tail of ideal-cut graduated diamonds.
Engagement Ring
Platinum / Aquamarine / Diamonds
This ring was created for a physician who wanted a low profile, smooth ring his fiancé could wear comfortably all day.
As is often the case, this young woman came in with her husband-to-be for the initial consultation, where we identified her general preferences for metal and gemstone colors, style and overall size for her ring. She then bowed out of the design process, leaving us to work with her fiancé to select gems and design the setting that would reflect her taste.
The result was a ring that was still in large part a surprise for the bride-to-be, which pleased her fiancé who enjoyed assuming a comfortable degree of risk!
Feather Bands
18k Yellow and White Gold / Diamonds
Very often an engaged couple wishes to incorporate the symbol of a shared passion into their wedding bands. Such was the case for this couple, bird-watching enthusiasts with a deep love of nature (and each other!).
Beginning with emailed images of feathers (so many kinds!), then proceeding to practical considerations such as ring width, colors and the addition of diamonds, we settled on predominantly white gold rings, with accents of yellow gold, and a random scattering of bezel-set ideal-cut diamonds for her ring.
Dune Roses
18k Gold / Pink Sapphires / Green Tourmaline / Diamonds
Designed to complement a ring featuring a cushion cut pink sapphire, this bracelet was hand forged from a heavy gold sheet using alternating hammers and stakes to create the concave form.
Preserving the lightly planished texture allows an intriguing play of light on the surface, which acts as a dynamic backdrop for a lyrical arrangement of pink sapphires, green tourmalines and diamonds.
This bracelet was inspired by the wild roses that grow along the shores of the New England seaside.

Thomas Moser Bed
Sterling Silver
This to-scale sculpture of a Thomas Moser Bed was commissioned by a wife to present to her husband, to commemorate their life of shared experiences, interests and memories. Travel was the dominant theme among many represented: the carpet upon which the bed stands depicts a map of Asia; the coverlet, a map of Europe. When at home, the couple spent many hours writing on their laptops, enjoying wine and cheese, collecting seashells. There is a pair of running shoes strewn nearby, alluding to more active pursuits.
The bed is also a box, the coverlet lifting to reveal a personal inscription etched into the bed's platform.
A three-month-long process that began with acquiring the actual blueprints from the Thomas Moser company, the bed itself was entirely hand fabricated in sterling silver. The three-dimensional objects were hand-carved in wax, then cast in silver using the lost wax casting method. The sculpture's dimensions were approximately 8" long by 6" tall.

There are times when a significant life event, whether joyful or somber, compels some to commemorate it with a special piece of jewelry or precious metalwork.
Since 1983, we have connected with numerous individuals, families and groups as they sought to create a tangible representation of their experience through custom jewelry design.
In our hands, sustainably-sourced gold and platinum have been crafted into rings depicting a couple’s favorite canoeing river, a pendant modeled after the fountain pen of a romantic poet, the treasured childhood finger puppet of a brave young woman.
The stories we have been honored to tell are many. Our relationships with our clients, beginning over the design table and continuing over a generation, are essential to our creativity and give our work unique purpose.
